The Loreto Rainbow Home Programme in Kolkata serves deprived and vulnerable girl children by
offering holistic care across key thematic areas such as education, health, nutrition, protection,
and livelihood readiness. The programme currently operates three Rainbow Homes located in Entally,
Sealdah, and Bowbazar.
These non-custodial Homes, integrated within Loreto school campus, provide care to girls aged 6
to 18 years, with extended support offered up to 23 years of age. The initiative began in 1985
as a small student-led service programme at Loreto Day School, Sealdah, under the visionary
leadership of Sr. Cyril Mooney, in response to the evolving needs of the community. Over the
years, structured systems and processes have strengthened the programme, enabling its steady
expansion.
Today, the three Homes collectively support over 300 Rainbow children, nurturing their growth,
resilience, and pathways toward empowerment.
